Summary
The population of any living species is in balance when the demographic profile is describable by a pyramidal figure in proportion.
The following considerations relate in particular to the changes observed in the period 1913-2023.
In the world, the human population has since 1990 a growing deficit at the base of the pyramid due to an increasing natality reduction.
In Switzerland, the phenomenon of regrowth and reduction of the pyramid base began in the 1950s, slowed down by two periods of baby-boom in 1962-1967 respectively 1977-1992. Since 2002, the base of the demographic pyramid has reached and maintained minimum values, equal to those estimated just after the end of the Second World War.
In Europe, the population pyramid stopped widening towards the end of the 50s and remained stable until the end of the 80s. Subsequently, a reduction began that brought the pyramid base back to the values of 1948. In the period 2005-2016 there was a partial and temporary recovery followed by a new reduction that restored the values to those recorded at the end of World War II.
For our planet, the following considerations refer in particular to the variations observed in the periodo 1945-2023.
The population group over 65 is constantly growing unlike the decreasing 0-14.
The population rate has been reduced from 2 to 0.8 %. The birth rate fell by 20/1000 while the dead fell by 8/1000. Fertility per woman, of is reduced from 5 to 2.
Life expectancy on average increased from 48 years to 74 years.
The trend for Switzerland and Europe is much more marked for regrowth, female fertility, ageing and increased life expectancy.
For Italy the situation is much more critical as the phenomena and trends described above are more marked with demographic bases that also presage a strong decrease in the population.
